The Los Angeles Lakers big man opens up on the hefty fine which the league imposed on him in the wake of a flagrant-2 on Denver Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried…..
When Dwight Howard jammed his hand right into the face of Denver Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried nearly midway through the third quarter of Wednesday’s game, he was called for his fourth flagrant-2 of the season so far.
Two more such fouls and the big man will receive a one – game suspension and given the fragile situation the Lakers that can be big blow. So what does Dwight Howard do, he vows to be more careful in future;
"I got to do a better job of keeping my composure and not getting frustrated and also remember that I'm playing for my teammates at all times and stay on the right path,"
Having said that he still doesn’t believe that his act merited a flagrant two and a consequent hefty fine;
"It was a lot," Howard said after the Lakers' shootaround Friday in advance of their game against the Portland Trail Blazers. "It was a lot for a flagrant foul. I'm happy I didn't get suspended; that's the biggest thing. I'm disappointed to be kicked out of a game. That's never happened since I've been in the NBA."
Howard has been one of the leading recipients of technicals and flagrant fouls in the last few years and to be honest; committing some is part of his job. However, Wednesday’s foul against the Manimal was more the result of defensive system. Faried is known to posterize defenders all around the league and he was well on his way to unload on the best of them, when the incident happened. That you just don’t do against the ‘Superman’.
Still, Howard’s fragrant and the consequent ejection had a big impact on the game and the lost out 126-114. The big man however wants to get over the flagrant and the fine and vowed to do his best for the team;
"You just can't get frustrated," Howard said. "A lot of times bigs don't get the same respect as the guards do, but that's understandable.”
