Dwight Howard dominant as Orlando Magic hammer New Jersey Nets 108 – 91 – NBA Recap
The 15th March trade deadline is nearing and with every passing day, the tension in the Orlando Magic camp is increasing, as their star Dwight Howard, who earlier asked his team to trade him, might be headed out.
Howard though has still kept his focus firmly on helping the Magic win NBA games.
On Wednesday night, Orlando’s star guided his team to a 108-91 win over what maybe his future team, New Jersey Nets at the Prudential Centre. Howard was phenomenal and finished with 20 points on 9 for 13 from the floor and 17 rebounds.
"Right now my only concern is winning games, playing as hard as I can every night," said Howard” That's the only thing I can control. I put all the other thoughts aside. The only thing I can control is what I do on the court."
Reserve forward Glen Davis pounded 16 points while guard J.J. Redick added 12 points on a 4 for 7 from downtown. Ryan J Anderson had 14 points and 9 boards whereas Chris Duhon sealed 11 points on 3 for 4 from downtown.
Magic shot a healthy 53.6% from the floor and 13-for-29 from the long range.
Rookie MarShon Brooks led the Nets with a game high 24 points on 10 for 15 from the floor while Deron Williams had 23 points, 6 boards and 8 assists. Brook Lopez (15) was the only other player from team who managed to produce a
double digit tally.
Magic started the game with a 13-5 spurt and then rattled an 11-2 burst in the ending minutes of the frame, after scores were 23-15, to end the quarter with complete dominance at 34-17.
Their Lead reached 20 plus points in the first few minutes of the next frame and then it hovered around 20 points throughout as Nets displayed poor defense and did not attack the Magic with any conviction. Therefore, by the end
of the first half, Nets found themselves behind by 17 points 58-41.
Nets showed some intensity after the interval and put up a good fight in the opening minutes of the third frame; getting as close as 59-67 in the first five minutes. However what followed next was a game deciding 17-6 spurt by
Magic, capped by Duhon’s 3-pointer, which again undid all of New Jersey’s good work.
Nets failed to make any sort of a comeback afterwards and pretty much gave up the fight midway through the deciding frame to round off a disappointing loss.
