Dwight Howard explains twitter comments; reassures Orlando Magic fans – NBA Update
Dwight Howard sat down for an interview to dispel any bad feeling that could have arisen after his statement on twitter that some constituted as against the Orlando Magic fans. Howard had opened up on his twitter account and revealed
that he wanted the Magic fans to be louder during the regular season, just as they are when the playoffs come around.
That phenomenon though is not just restricted to Orlando. Teams around the league experience the same thing and it is only natural to expect that fans would be more pumped up during playoff basketball, just as the players are.
The Magic also just moved into a new arena and their fans have consistently sold it out. Orlando is a small market but the fans are passionate about their team and support it with quite a lot of zest. Therefore Howard’s comments
did come off in the wrong way, at least a little.
The 6-foot-11 centre though has always reiterated his love for the fans and the city of Orlando, often stating it as the principle reason for him staying put despite interest from teams around the league. He isn’t someone who wants
to be on the bad side of the fans and decided to clear things up before they head in the wrong direction,
“I want to clear it up. In no shape, form or fashion am I criticizing our fans. My whole statement was when the season’s around, and the playoffs come, it’s a different atmosphere. And if you want to win a championship, we all
gotta act as champions. That’s players, coaches, and even our city. The city can win a championship, especially a city like ours. We need to come together, and not just for a couple games and the playoffs. If we’re together all season, there’s no doubt in
my mind that we can win a championship. I will know that I have my city behind me.”
Dwight is currently the best centre in the world and therefore one of the most sought after commodities in NBA basketball. There is simply no one as dominant as him in the paint and the player has continued to improve on the offensive
end year after year.
Add to it the fact that he has now won three consecutive “NBA Defensive Player of the Year” awards, and you have a genuine super star worthy of the ultimate prize, the NBA World Championship. The Magic big man has repeatedly stated
that he wants to win the NBA title and it’s a priority to win it with Orlando. Recently though he has given indications that if the Magic cannot help him achieve his goals, he would look elsewhere.
