Dwight Howard holds benefit event for his non-profit organization – NBA Update
Dwight Howard is considered as the most devastating centre in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is the one who is supposed to carry the reins of greatness after the retirement of Shaquille O’ Neal. Even after six dazzling
years, containing Howard has been riddle no team has been able to solve. In the past, the 6 ft 11 in pure muscle post scoring and rebounding machine has wrapped up several NBA teams almost single handed and the way he is going, Howard will be a force to reckon
with for some time to come.
However, the on court brilliance does not seem to be his only forte.
On Saturday, Howard showed a completely different side of his personality, when he held the first benefit bowling event for his charity organization, called D12 Foundation at AMF Altamonte Lanes.
D12 Foundation is non-profit organization that helps raise money for different good will ventures. This project is led by Howard and this was his first aspiring step into the charity world. Howard’s foundation will also support
a children hospital and BETA Centre, a charity that helps teen mothers. The hospital and BETA centre are both located in Orlando.
Howard’s friends and basketball stars former Magic Nick Anderson, Bo Outlaw and Darrell Armstrong along with Josh Powell, current forward of Atlanta Hawks and Howard's best friends in the league, came to support him for this excellent
cause.
Addressing the event Howard said, "I'm willing to go wherever it takes to reach out and touch a kid's a life and not just touch a kid's life, but talk to them and motivate them and watch them grow into great people. That's our
mission."
As has been a norm for quite some time now, the media present on the occasion was more interested in Howard’s future rather than the noble cause. Howard was apparently not impressed and requested the media through one of his public-relations
representative, not to ask him any questions related to his plans after entering the free agency in 2012 or about basketball.
However, Howard couldn’t get away with the question related to the situation on the potential lockout in NBA. When asked what he would do if the negotiations between the players union and owners fail and a lockout occurs, he jokingly
aid "I'm not worried about the lockout."
"I have two jobs in place. One, I've been training a couple of chickens in my backyard. I have a miniature treadmill. I have some steroids for the chickens, and we're going to do cockfights. So I might do that. The other one is
I've been also training for curling. So I'll be in Canada and Montreal with the curling team up there. So, yeah, I can't wait."
At the moment there are several trade rumours swirling in the league regarding Howard. Some of them suggest that Los Angeles Lakers are interested in him. Another rumour is that Miami Heat are looking to make a deal by sending
Chris Bosh and some extra perks to Orlando Magic in exchange for Dwight.
Howard has said on number of occasions that he wants to continue his journey with the Magic, but up till now hasn’t inked any contract extension with Orlando.
