Dwight Howard hoping to return soon, wants to be 100 percent before he does – NBA News
As Dwight Howard wore the signature purple and gold jersey of the Los Angeles Lakers for their media day on Monday, he could not help but get impatient to make his debut with the Lakers in the NBA. And while that may not happen
on the pre-season opener on October 7th, he can very well be in the Lakers starting line-up for their season opener.
Howard underwent back surgery in April, which ended his regular season and ruled him out of the London Olympics as well. Since then, he has been rehabbing in Los Angeles, but during an interview said that he feels much better now
than when he signed with the Lakers around a month and a half ago.
“I'm getting better every day. I'm getting stronger every day and I'm just looking forward to that day when I'm 100 percent. Until then, I'm going to keep training. I think from the last time you guys saw me to now, I think I look
a lot different. I've been working extremely hard to get back on the court and I think we're going to have an awesome year."
Yahoo! Sports recently reported that Howard is making good progress in his recovery process and may very well be ready to start for the Lakers in their season opening game on October 30th.
“I don't have a percentage meter for my back. They didn't make them yet. I think that's the new technology in the iPhone 6. We got to wait until that comes out,” said Howard jokingly in an answer to a question during the conference.
Howard refused to put a timeline on his return, saying that his objective was not to rush into anything and ensure that he was 100 percent before he returned to the court, as he did not want to risk further damage to his back and
wanted to play out the season once he returned.
D-12 has undergone some basketball drills with the Lakers coaching staff over the past few weeks, but is yet to participate in any five on five situation that puts pressure on his back and exposes him to full contact. The true
status of his return might only be revealed once he actually does return to the game, seeing as the Lakers are keeping his timeline very confidential.
