Dwight Howard may still ask for trade to the Nets – NBA Report
The Dwight Howard saga continues. We had thought that the rumours regarding a Dwight Howard trade had been silenced once and for all when the trade deadline passed and Dwight stayed in Orlando. But now, we are again hearing rumours
that Dwight may be traded after the end of this season.
Dwight has been involved with all sorts of stories off the court this season. It all started at the beginning of the season, when it was reported that Dwight Howard wanted a trade to the New Jersey Nets. That never happened and
both parties seemed happy playing with one another. However, as the trade deadline neared, rumours started again that Dwight Howard did in fact, want to be traded to the New Jersey Nets. When the trade deadline passed and Dwight remained in Orlando, we thought
the issue had been finished for good.
But, Howard got involved in another issue when team coach Stan Van Gundy revealed that Howard had requested the team management to fire him. That was the final nail in the coffin and let to the fall-out between the All Star player
and the coach. The two later decided mutually to co-operate on the court and leave the issues aside as the Magic were in playoff contention. The issue however was too big to be swept under the carpet, and Orlando’s performance suffered, with them dropping
to 6th place in the Eastern Conference.
Howard ultimately decided to undergo back surgery and was ruled out for the rest of the season. Now, rumours are starting that Howard is again going to request a trade to New Jersey after the season ends. The trade would be good
news for the Nets who move to Brooklyn next season, and could even convince star point guard Deron Williams to stay in New Jersey. Williams will be a free agent in the summer and since he has already expressed his interest in playing with Dwight, a signing
of Howard with the Nets could lure him back into the club as well, making Brooklyn a championship contending team next season.
It remains clear that once the season ends, either Howard or Van Gundy will have to leave Orlando because the two are no longer going to be able to work together. If Dwight is asking for the trade, the team management may as well
go forward with it since he has not been the dominant player he is all season. On the other hand, the rumours may once again turn out to be just rumours. After all, if he wanted out, he could have very well gone through with the trade before the trade deadline.
All we know for sure is that with Howard and Williams both in Nets uniforms, New Jersey will be a team to reckon with next season.
