Dwight Howard promises to stay but demands changes at Orlando Magic – NBA Update
There is good news for Orlando Magic fans, but it has come with a warning. Dwight Howard, who has maintained his stance of wanting to stay at the Orlando from the very time the Magic crashed out in the first round of the playoffs
against the Atlanta Hawks, reiterated his desire to stay on Monday. However, best centre in the league has added a condition.
The player, who is in Italy at the Euro camp on behalf of Adidas, spoke with reporters about his future. There had been reports of Dwight Howard having a sit down with Magic owner Rich DeVos earlier, where he had apparently agreed
to stay and was promised changes in the roster soon. In his most recent interview, Howard not only spoke on the same lines, he made it clear that if the Orlando Magic don’t build a championship worthy team, he will leave.
In the interview, Howard made it clear that he wanted to win an NBA World Championship and his preference was to win it in Orlando,
“I want to win a championship,” the Orlando centre said. “I think the owners have to really know that. That’s been my goal and my mission since I’ve been in the NBA — to win a championship. I don’t have side goals or agendas. My
main goal is to win a championship. I want to have 14 other guys who feel the same way.”
He went on to speak of his love for the city and the loyalty he feels towards it.
“There’s no other place I’d rather be besides Orlando,” he said. “As of right now, that’s my home. I just want to stay in Orlando as long as I can.”
“That’s the truth”
However when pressed by the reporters to comment on the hypothetical , and very likely, situation of another fruitless year at Orlando and no change of direction for the franchise, Howard’s reply was simple.
“Then things have to change,”
Dwight Howard is one of the best players in the NBA at present. His size and skill in the paint are unmatched and Dwight is the only truly dominant centre left in the league. He performed to superhuman levels in the playoffs against
the Atlanta Hawks but the poor displays of his teammates meant that the Magic lost the series.
His enormous talent seems to have outgrown the Magic and there are widespread fears in Orlando that after another disappointing year Dwight will go down the same route that Shaquille O’Neal took. Shaq too started his career in
Orlando but left when it became clear the franchise could not match his ambition.
Dwight has reassured fans that he is still staying, but no one’s sure how long that will be for.
Orlando need to change their roster and bring in players who can better help Dwight bring NBA World Championship glory to the franchise, but it’s hard to see how. The Magic already have one of the most bloated payrolls in the league
and the new CBA will only tighten the budget.
