Dwight Howard responds to his critics, Says his health and career come first – NBA Update
Dwight Howard has not has the perfect start to his Los Angeles Lakers career. The big man, unarguably the best NBA has to offer, had a delayed start as he recovered from his back surgery, and has not been able to make the kind
of impact that was expected of him. While his use might be questionable to an extent, injuries haven’t done him any good either. The one which is irritating him at the moment is a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which was aggravated in the game against
the Phoenix Suns last week. He missed the next three Lakers games, but came back as a starter against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, scoring 9 points and 9 rebounds before being fouled out.
Ever since his injury, there have been critics urging Howard to make a comeback and play through pain. This chorus picked up pace after Pau Gasol suffered a serious right foot injury which has ruled him for about eight weeks. Among
those critics, Kobe Bryant has been at the forefront and repeatedly challenged the big man to make an urgent comeback. In fact, he did so twice in the last two days.
All this has not gone down well with Howard. On Thursday, after participating in shootaround in advance of the game against the Boston Celtics, the ‘Superman’ fired back at all his critic, effectively giving them a shut up call.
"I want to play, I mean, why wouldn't I want to play? But at the same time, this is my career, this is my future, this is my life. I can't leave that up to anybody else because nobody else is going to take care of me. So, if people
are pissed off that I don't play or if I do play, whatever it may be, so what? This is my career. If I go down, then what? Everybody's life is going to go on. I don't want to have another summer where I'm rehabbing and trying to get healthy again.”
“I want to come back and have another great year.” He added. “That's what I want to do."
