Dwight Howard should avoid Los Angeles Lakers to win several NBA championship rings: Part 1
Orlando Magic’s centre Dwight Howard is among the list of the elite players that are looking to make a move in the near future. Howard will enter into his optional contract with the Magic next year and despite Howard saying otherwise,
there are still rumours that the 26 year old will exercise his right to transfer from Magic to some other top team. The main reason for the rumours is that Howard is yet to sign contract extension offered by his franchise.
Besides the contract option in 2012, Howard have another reason behind his shifting and that is lack of good supporting cast in Orlando that can help Dwight to make a run for the title. Howard has guided the Magic to three division
and one conference title in the last six years with the franchise and also helped Orlando in seizing a berth in the 2011 playoffs. However, without much help from the rest of the roster it was always difficult for Dwight to make it through to the next round.
Atlanta Hawks, the team which took on Dwight Howard and the Magic in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs series knew that in order to contain magic, they have to come to grips with the Superman. They formulated a
strategy to pin him down and in doing so threw the Magic out of the contest by four games to two.
At this stage, when the 6 ft 11 in giant is at the prime of his career, a championship will be the only thing on his mind and after last season’s playoff meltdown, it wouldn’t be incorrect to say that Howard’s time in Orlando is
about to end. Howard has a much better chances to make several championships runs and win a number of titles with a different team or perhaps teams.
However, Howard wouldn’t have to worry about his future contract, as several teams are already lined up in the hope of landing him into their rosters. One of the top contenders for Howard in this contention is former two time defending
champions Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are quite keen to acquire Howard into their side and are looking to strengthen their ageing roster with his inclusion.
If the deal gets finalize between Howard and the Lakers, it would a good move for Los Angeles. The Lakers have been the best side in the National Basketball Association for the last ten years or so and acquiring Howard will allow
them to continue their legacy.
The reason why the Lakers need Howard the most, is that Kobe Bryant, the man who has led the Lakers to five championship titles in the last decade is now in his twilight and although still a force to reckon with, his knees are
quickly giving way.
However, the Lakers first need to re-check their funds, which are already engaged in 11 contracts. In addition to that franchise owners are already at logger heads with the players union over player salaries. The owners want to
reduce the player salaries and set a hard cap for all teams. If this happens the Lakers chances of landing Howard will be dented pretty badly.
