Dwight Howard should avoid Los Angeles Lakers to win several NBA championship rings: Part 2
There could be possibility that this new CBA wouldn’t hold a hard salary cap clause, but players’ salaries will definitely receive a hit. The reduction percentage is yet to decide between the players union and the owners. It would
become real difficult for the Los Angeles Lakers to persist with the same roster, whose total cost is $91 million.
So, in this situation even if the Lakers were able to hire Howard, he would require to re-sign with them for the 2012 season. As being the best centre in the entire league, Howard can demand a very big cheque from the team that
wishes to acquire him. The financial situation of the Lakers in terms of salaries in 2012 will be like this: they have to pay $56 million to only four of their players and out of these four, two players (Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol) will be earning $46 million
 in between them.
Moreover, if captain Derek Fisher and Ron Artest use their player options, then the team will have to register $67 million in their accounts for six players. So it seems hard, how L.A would land Howard into their side, even a discount
wouldn’t help much.
Managing salaries in the year would become even more difficult for the Los Angeles Lakers, as the franchise have to pay $3 million extra to Kobe Bryant in terms of salary. This will increase the salary budget to $61 million between
the just four players and without Dwight Howard.
Extra salary to Kobe and likely new salary cap in the new-year would limit Los Angeles’s ability to acquire good role players into their side with Howard. Role players inclusion is very crucial for the Lakers, as it would be hard
for them to win a title without these players. If Los Angeles signs Howard and stay without role players for two years due to their financial limitations, the franchise wouldn’t just miss two championships, but they will also lose two fine years of Kobe, who
is aging fast.
Two years later it would be possible for the All-Star to continue with the same vigour and he will be well on the downside. As a result of that the Lakers then have to start a rebuilding process in which Howard will become the
centre piece and rest of the support players will be adjusted around him. Two years without role players plus the rebuilding process time would waste Howard’s prime, so this can scenario can keep him away from joining the Lakers.
