Dwight Howard should avoid Los Angeles Lakers to win several NBA championship rings: Part 3
In addition to this, another thing that can stop Howard from joining the Lakers is the change of coach. Howard is the most dominant centre of the league at present and it was because of his skills and hard work that he was able
to win Defensive Player of the Year thrice in as many year and also named for the All-Defensive team on four occasions. He is a beast on the D and as such there aren’t many things that can be improved in his defensive skill set.
The only things that he needs to improve on are his jumpers and free throws. For Howard, these tow facets of the game have been the main reasons of absence of a championship ring on a personal front. To remove these kinks, he has
been training with Hakeem Olajuwon for the last two years in the offseason, but to really overcome his shortcoming on the key, he needs a mentor on his team, one who specializes in that aspect of the game.
Mike Brown, the new Los Angeles Lakers coach, does not provide that option to Howard. Brown, who coached LeBron James for five years at the Cleveland Cavaliers, is known to be a defensive specialist.
However, in comparison to L.A there are several teams in National Basketball Association that holds a good supporting cast and coach, all they need is a star to lead them for the championship run. So it’ll be a better option for
Howard to join some other team rather than the Lakers in order to strive in his career.
The other options include Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Bulls offer a solid player like Derrick Rose, who is young and full of energy. Rose still has a long way to go and together with Tom Thibodeau, Howard can win several titles. Although the Big Three of Boston Celtics are close
to their retirement, but Howard can form a good alliance with Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green. Moreover, the C’s have the top coach in the entire league, Doc Rivers, who still has four to five years left in his coaching contract.
If the New Jersey Nets are able to re-sign Deron Williams, then the duo can form a devastating team that can tear down any side. The Nets owner had already stated that he is ready to take any measures in order to bring the Larry
O’Brian trophy to New Jersey and he would definitely go after Howard.
Oklahoma City Thunder also possess a strong core in the form of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, but they need to let go one or both of their centres, which are already with them, to convert their team into an relentless machine.
Many believe that New York Knicks is also another potential place for Howard, but I strongly disagree with that as Knicks already have star studded line-up in the form of Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire. What the Knicks lack
is good supporting cast and not another superstar, as Anthony and Stoudemire already struggled to develop chemistry in the previous season, which they would definitely look to evolve in next season.
So the conclusion is that the Lakers are not the best option for Howard to go with, especially in long term. He can win several championship rings by evading L.A and joining a different squad.
