Dwight Howard shows up at Comic-Con; Rules out a Miami Heat future – NBA Update
Dwight Howard’s popularity is at a real high these days. Not only because the ‘Superman’ bewitched all with his splendid on court performances last season, but also because of all the speculation over his future. So when the 6ft
11in Orlando Magic centre showed up at the Comic-Con in San Diego, he was bound to be asked a whole host of questions regarding his future, and Howard was more than happy to answer.
Dwight was at the annual comics and sci-fi event in order to promote Disney’s “Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil”. Howard is the voice of one the characters, “Rock”, on the show.
Aside from the questions about the show, Howard was asked about any chance he might have of joining up with the Los Angeles Lakers and the centre was non-committal and chose to deflect it,
“I am wearing purple … but that’s Rock’s outfit.”
The Miami Heat have also been mentioned as a future destination for the charismatic big guy. If Howard does join Miami he would form perhaps the strongest NBA team in history, with the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris
Bosh already on the Heat’s roster.
So is it going to happen?
“Never” was Howard’s terse reply.
Frustrated at getting next to nothing out of Dwight, one of the fans plainly asked him what exactly he was going to do in the future. The diplomatic Howard still handled it with ease,
“At this point, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m just enjoying life and taking advantage of being young and being able to travel and do the things that I’ve always wanted to do.”
With the NBA in lockout, fans are itching to see their beloved basketball stars in action, even if it is elsewhere. A number of NBA stars have been linked with moves to Europe in light of the lockout. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant,
Dwyane Wade and Amar’e Stoudemire are just some of the players who have indicated that they would like to perform outside of the United States.
Dwight has also been constantly linked with a temporary move abroad, with China branded as a likely destination, given his popularity there and the enormous size of the market.
Howard addressed the issue and said he was absolutely open to the move. He reasoned that it just did not make sense to lie around and wait for the labour dispute to be resolved. As an NBA player and a top athlete, he has to stay
in shape.
“Yeah, I don’t want to just sit around and do nothing. That’s just a waste. There’s no telling when the NBA season’s going to start, so if I’m just sitting at home and one day it decides to pop back up and I’m not ready, I’m going
to look bad.”
