The All-Star Centre will not be participating in training camp for the Lakers but is likely to be ready for the season opener....
The Los Angeles Lakers made a four team block buster trade for Dwight Howard to be brought over from the Orlando Magic during the summer.
However, the Lakers might have to start of training camp without the All-Star Centre as Howard is set to miss out the start of training camp starting from October 2nd and will most likely also miss the pre-season opener
against the Golden State Warriors on October 7th.
The delay in Howard’s return was expected after the centre had gone through back surgery. And even though his expected recovery process is going according to plan, he is not likely to rush into things as Howard himself pointed
out the critical nature of his injury shortly after his arrival in LA, last month.
"We'll see what the doctor says," Howard said. "If I'm ready for opening night, I'll be there, but I'm not going to rush it. A back is very serious, so I'm going to take my time and make sure I'm 100 percent because I want to give
everybody 100 percent. I want to give everybody everything I have."
Howard began working with Lakers trainer, Gary Vitti and physical therapist Dr. Judy Seto this week. The Lakers training staff has been working with the centre’s personal trainer Bryan Meyer and his rehabilitation process is not
that big of a concern as no setbacks have been faced up until this point.
The anticipated return for Howard was to officially make his debut for the Lakers in the season opener against the Dallas Mavericks and still looks highly likely to be fit by that time. But to the Lakers it is not that big of a
worry or otherwise they might have not gone in pursuit of the big man and they firmly believe that things are going according to plan.
Howard is well on his way towards the six month recovery plan he was set to follow following his back surgery. Howard’s current work plan revolves around core stabilization, body strength and then working his way slowly towards
playing fitness.
