Dwight Howard’s agent Dan Fegan admits to accusation by NBA commissioner David Stern
Dan Fegan, agent for Orlando Magic All Star Centre Dwight Howard, has accepted NBA Commissioner David Stern’s accusation that he was in fact the person who provided the media details about a meeting that Howard had with Magic officials in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
However, Fegan also added that he did so only after the media had already been tipped off about the meeting from another unknown source. NBA commissioner David Stern had earlier accused Fegan of leaking the details of the meeting to the media, and said that he did not think it was the Orlando Magic who leaked the details.
"No, I don't (think it's GM Rob Hennigan), and I don't think it's (CEO) Alex Martins either,” said Stern.
Dwight Howard has been involved in the trade drama ever since he made it clear to the Magic officials that he wanted to be traded before the next season commenced.
Fegan said that on the day of the meeting, there were already media reports that an interaction between Howard and Magic officials was going to take place and that all throughout the day, media representatives kept on contacting him for the details.  Fegan also added that he tried to contact Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan before talking to the media just because he wanted to keep him in the loop and prevent media from making up fake reports about the meeting.
Howard had been asking for a trade since last season, but was convinced by the Orlando management and then general manager Otis Smith to opt into the final year of his contract at the trade deadline on March 15th. However, Howard again made a trade request to the Magic officials at near the end of the regular season and put the Brooklyn Nets at the top of his list for prospective teams.
Orlando hired General Manager Rob Hennigan after firing Otis Smith nearly three months back, and the former attempted to convince Howard to stay with the team and sign a contract extension.
However, Howard denied his offer and insisted on being traded. The Magic have tried to strike out a trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets thus far, but have been unable to find a situation suitable to their long term goals. The recent meeting was anothe attempt from Hennigan to convince Howard, but the star centre is adamant in his demand.
