Dwyane Wade: ‘It’s still hard to watch basketball’ – NBA Update
Dwyane Wade revealed in a recent interview that he is nowhere close to recovering from Miami Heat’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks in last season’s NBA Finals. The player said that the loss was not a great feeling and he didn’t even
have the heart to watch basketball on TV since the Finals,
“I haven’t watched ESPN in a long time,” Wade said “It’s still hard to watch basketball.”
Wade was a standout performer in the NBA Finals, but still ended up on the losing side after one of the most thrilling Finals in recent memory. The NBA Finals drew the highest ratings in around a decade as many subplots in the
Miami Heat - Dallas Mavericks clash had fans riveted to their TV sets.
The Dallas Mavericks ultimately came out on top, behind the excellent Dirk Nowitzki, whom the Heat just couldn’t find a way to stop. The series lasted for six games and Miami had to suffer the humiliation of losing it on their
own turf at the end.
Wade had been on the Miami Heat team that won the 2006 edition of the NBA Finals, ironically against the Mavs and with a same margin. Wade was also named Finals MVP on that occasion. Therefore, losing Finals was an unfamiliar sensation
for him and one that he did not enjoy,
“The sting is always going to be there when you lose,” he said. “Obviously, it was my first time ever losing the Finals. The sting is there, no question about it.”
Wade however stated that the loss made him more determined to win the whole thing next time around. He believed that he will eventually move on and was confident that he will get another chance at NBA World Championship glory,
“But you’ve got to move on. As I said, at the end of the year, we learn from it, but life continues to go and we’ll have a lot more basketball left in our lives to play and we’ll get another crack at it.” Said the Miami guard.
Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat have indeed got a few lessons to learn from the Finals, if they want to be successful when the opportunity arises again. First of all, the Heat need more depth as they are almost totally reliant on
their Big Three of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Wade.
The Heat were one of the best, if not the best, teams defensively last season but they struggled on the offensive end at times and some of their stars resorted to doing it alone when the going got tough.
If the Heat can make some minor adjustments and readdress those weaknesses, there is no reason they cannot reach another NBA Finals next year.
