Dwyane Wade admits he nearly left for Chicago Bulls two summers ago – NBA Update
Dwyane Wade has been a Miami Heat player throughout his career but there came a time two summers ago when he was interested in leaving for the Chicago Bulls.
The star shooting was a free agent then and a lot of NBA teams were lining up to the land the All-Star. During that time, Wade met with the Bulls management but the recruitment of LeBron James and Chris Bosh by Pat Riley eventually
saw him return to Miami.
In a recent appearance on the Chicago Tribune, Wade acknowledged that he come close to leaving for his home town team, one he grew up idolizing;
“It was very tough, it was one of the hardest decision I had to make in my life,” Wade said. “I’m a Chicago guy and I grew up idolizing the Chicago Bulls, idolizing Michael Jordan and wanted to wear that jersey. So the day I went
for the Chicago visit and they gave me the No. 3 jersey, I mean, that day messed me up. I went back home and I had the jersey on and, I mean, I turned into a kid again.”
The Bulls attraction was huge, but he quickly realized that the best chance of winning the NBA championship was alongside LeBron and Bosh. And in the end it all worked out for the Heat and Wade as they put together a star studded
line up which finally lifted the NBA Championship in their second year together.
However one cannot stop but wonder about what would have been had Wade moved to Chicago. With Derrick Rose already established as one of the best point guards in the NBA, having Wade to play at shooting guard would have definitely
been an exciting prospect.
The back court duo could have done wonders. As for now though, the Bulls are in a bit of spot. Their only star player, Derrick Rose, is expected to miss more than half of the season and with some average acquisitions in the off
season, next year appears to be one filled with disappointment for the famed franchise.
