Dwyane Wade almost ready to jump abroad – NBA Update
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade has confirmed that he would be looking at overseas options from now on. The Heat player was one of those who had resisted the urge to flirt with offers from teams outside of the United States throughout
the lockout, but he believes the situation calls for him to have more options now.
The NBA lockout is still going strong. Around 140 days have passes since Commissioner David Stern started the lockout after the old Collective Bargaining Agreement expired. With the hope of finding a solution fading quickly, Wade
has told his agent to start looking for viable contract offers from elsewhere.
"I told my agent to just take a peek," Wade said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It's time.”
With the players now headed to the courts, there is real possibility that the whole NBA season could be wiped out. If that were to happen, Wade sees no point in staying put.
“There's a possibility that we're not going to have a season. We've got to see what's out there, what the possibilities are.”
Dwyane is one of the standout players in the NBA. He won the NBA World Championship back in 2006, also netting the Finals MVP award in the process. However he has had a career filled with a fair deal of lows as well. One particularly
hard time was when he missed a whole year of playing time, and the Miami star is determined not to let that happen again.
“I want to play competitive basketball this year. I've missed a year of basketball in my life before. I'm not trying to miss another. I don't have too many years of basketball left."
If Wade does decide to go overseas, he won’t be the first NBA star to do so. Players had been considering the option even since before the lockout. Many players of European origin are already playing abroad and some genuine NBA
stars have also joined in the fray.
Deron Williams, the point guard from the New Jersey Nets, is a prime example. Williams has real star profile and he became the first big name to make a move across the pond, where he currently plays for Turkish club Besiktas. Williams
does have a get out clause in his contract that would allow him to come back to the Nets if the NBA lockout were to end.
Wade has a similar view; he won’t be missing any NBA playing time if the season starts, so he is also going to be looking for a deal with an escape clause. At the moment though, he is still hanging on to hope that somehow the lockout
would end and the season can be salvaged.
"Hopefully," Wade said. "Hopefully. You never know. They haven't said `No games on Christmas' yet. So I still can say there's hope."
