Dwyane Wade begins court practise for the first time since left knee surgery – NBA News
Dwyane Wade has started basketball related activities and drills for the first time since he underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on July 9th.
Wade has been really busy these past few weeks with his charity tour and also promoting his new book on fatherhood. He took to Twitter on Tuesday evening and said:
"Whew. First day on the court since my surgery. Oh and that look on my face was b4 the workout started..haa."
The shooting guard then posted a picture of himself on the court with Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale.
Wade struggled through the last part of the 2012 playoffs, playing with a sore knee that kept swelling up from time to time. However, he battled through the pain to remain available for the Heat throughout the playoffs and helped them to eventually win the NBA championship. He then underwent the surgery as soon as possible so that he could be back healthy in time for the opening of the season. That schedule meant that Wade would have to miss the London Olympics.
However, when the time came to make the decision, Wade decided to go with the surgery and not risk his health and his NBA season.
"Obviously, I had a decision to make. If I wanted to, I could have been boneheaded and said, 'No, I'm just going to play in the Olympics' and then get surgery after that or go through the season next year and feel nothing bad happens. But I had to make a smart decision for my career and for the franchise that I made a promise to,” said Wade.
The Heat training camp is set to commence on September 29th at the American Airlines Arena, and Wade will hopefully be ready by then.
However, he has stressed that being ready for the training camp is not the ultimate goal and he will not rush his return, even if it meant missing part of the camp. He does intend to be ready on October 30th when the Heat will open their new season and their defence of the championship against the Boston Celtics, their Eastern Conference arch rivals.
