Dwyane Wade does not need to take risk by playing abroad – NBA Feature
One of the mainstays of the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade is making a lot of headlines these days. First he was in the news for his promotional tour to China then he was in Europe to attend a fashion show and later there arose strong rumours that a Chinese team had offered $2 million per month salary to get the services of the Heat shooting guard.
However, later Wade nipped the buzz when he clearly said that he is not in talks with any international team at the moment, but if an offer drops in then he will seriously consider it.
Now whether that was all pomposity by Wade, as the celebrities do exercise such things to keep them in the news or something else, it’s the best indirect way to convey the message that a player is available to play.
Nonetheless, one thing is sure that Wade is not looking to waste his time, if the next scheduled season does not takes place in time or gets wrecked outright by the lockout.
During a business tour to New York, D-Wade revealed, “I’m going to play basketball this year. I don’t know where, but I love the game so much that I will play it.”
The 2006 National Basketball Association Finals Most Valuable Player said earlier that he might play abroad in case the lockout stretches further. After the first meeting between the player’s union and the NBA owners went in the wrong direction, it is likely that the shooting guard will go abroad. There are many angles attached to Wade’s declaration.
One suggestion is that the moves ate just to distress the league and the owners that one of their valuable assets is ready to play overseas. The money factor and the fact that no basketball activity worth his talent is taking place in US also might have made his mind up. However, we need to remember one thing.
Wade is injury prone and if the Heat star endures a serious injury in his international stint, not only the league, but he himself will lose a lot. Wade had already sustained several injuries in his career and has missed more than 100 games because of fitness issues.
Although the 29 year old Wade kept himself in good shape in the previous season, but Wade is now touching the 30’s and a minor lapse at this juncture of his career can be hazardous. The Finals are only two and a half month old and Wade should give rest to his body in order to rejuvenate completely.
Wade is amongst the players, who have lengthy guaranteed contracts with their franchises and in addition to that his brand endorsements are like gold mines. So it wouldn’t be a problem for him to survive this lockout without playing any professional basketball. His first priority should be rest and not risk.
