Dwyane Wade feels Kevin Durant’s popularity not reaching its potential – NBA News
Kevin Durant is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in the NBA. At the age of 23, Durant has 3 scoring titles, was the MVP runner this year, an All Star Game MVP winner, and is now leading his team in the NBA Finals this
year against the Miami Heat.
His playoff performances have solidified his position in the NBA, and he is being received well by fans and commentators. Being such a big star in the NBA has its perks, and Durant is rightly cashing in on all the hard work he
has put in.
He already has a Nike deal under his belt and will be starring in the movie “Thunderstruck” this summer.
However, Dwyane Wade feels that Durant’s stardom is not reaching its full potential because Durant is playing with a small market team.
While talking to reporters during practice on Wednesday, he said:
“Sometimes it’s where you’re at. If he was in Los Angeles, Chicago, somewhere, it would be a little different. Being in Oklahoma kind of dims his light a little bit, not him on the basketball court, but him off the court.”
Wade is no stranger to the spotlight as he has been on the radar ever since he became the leader of the Miami Heat and led them to the 2006 NBA Championships. Being on a big market team like the Heat certainly has its advantages.
Miami is a big city and the chances of advertising deals and marketing revenue are much greater compared to a city like Oklahoma City.
Being from Miami, Wade is also constantly on the news unlike Durant. Ever since LeBron James joined Wade in Miami back in 2010, the Heat have become the most talked about team in NBA and it has brought its perks in terms of marketing
deals for the players as well as the clubs.
Having said that, Durant is a very low key type of individual, who likes to be left alone and not talk a lot. Judging from his personality, he would not like to be in the news constantly and being followed by cameras wherever he
goes.
It seems as if Durant is comfortable with being in a small city and playing for a small market team without all the attention, sometimes necessary and other times unnecessary.
As far as landing endorsements are concerned, Durant has will have plenty whether he stay in OKC or not. For a player of his status and quality, popularity will follow wherever he decides to play.
