Dwyane Wade lashes out at NBA Commissioner David Stern - Again
Last month, Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade had a stunning confrontation with the NBA Commissioner David Stern when the owners and players association were engaged in a bargaining session. At that time, Wade was infuriated when
the commissioner refereed to Wade specifically and pointed a finger at him.
What happened after was an exact assessment of what the NBA players think about the commissioner and the owners he serve.
Stern played down played the situation afterwards, but it seems that Wade has not let bygones be bygones.
Last Saturday, when the league was inviting questions and viewpoints on its Twitter account from over 3 million followers, regarding the latest proposal offered by NBA to the union, Heat’s shooting guard Dwayne Wade rapped Stern
"Why are all your 'system solutions' only impacting the PLAYERS?? What have the owners giving up of significance??"
Wade did have a point as all the major compromises so far, have been made by the players association, especially on the division of the Basketball Related Income (BRI). The players have sacrificed a substantial percentage in their
share of revenue, from 57 percent under the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement to 52.5% to be exact.
Moments after Wade lashed out; the league replied with the same mantra;
"The economics & system favoured the players in prior CBA. Teams lost over 300m last year."
There was no name attached to the league’s response however it is considered that either NBA Commissioner David Stern or Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver had posted the comment as the league indicated earlier that the two will be
answering all the questions on the Twitter forum.
NBA claim has been challenged by many financial experts though. The NBPA also claims the owners are projecting the wrong figures and if indeed there were any losses, they were due to wrong financial practices of the owners. The
owners now want the players to make all the sacrifices and when it comes to the issue of revenue sharing between the large and the small market franchises, they tend to call it their own business.
The situation now has reached a boiling point and if the NBPA reject the latest proposal by NBA (which they probably will), decertification and a potential loss of the whole season will be the outcome.
