Dwyane Wade may be out of the Olympics because of knee injury – Update
After clinching the 2nd NBA Championship for himself and the Miami Heat on Thursday night by beating Oklahoma City Thunder in 5 games, a big question mark around Dwyane Wade`s participation in the Olympics has arisen.
Despite struggling with pain in both knees, Wade played in every game for Miami in this year’s playoffs and averaged 22.3 points including 20 points in the title clinching game. That certainly took its toll and the shooting guard
will now have to undergo an MRI on any of the coming days to clear up his status of playing in the Olympics.
"I've got to make a decision on what my knee needs and what's best, because my career and finishing my career strong is what's important to me," Wade said. "And I know, yeah, the Olympics are coming up. “
Wade has already had a discussion with the doctor and a few more meetings are scheduled to properly assess the amount of treatment required for him to become fit again.
"From my small conversations with the doctor at that time, I think some kind of cleanup process might have to go on," Wade said. "And when that happens, from our previous experiences, it takes a while to recover. So I want to make
sure that I want to recover strong and not like I did the last knee surgery that I had."
He has had previous experiences of going through surgery on his knee for a similar kind of injury back in 2007. But a year later, Wade participated in the Beijing Olympics and was a key member in USA`s run to the gold medal.
Wade was the leading scorer of the tournament by averaging 16 points over 8 games played, despite coming off the bench in all of the matches. However one thing that he does not have on his side this time around is time to recover.
In 2008, he had a whole year to get back in physical fitness required to participate in the Olympics but due to the lockout affected NBA season finishing a little later than usual, it is highly possible that Wade will not make
the cut.
It would be a tough break to miss out on the Olympics and having a shot at winning the Gold Medal once again. But with the amount of pain he has had to go through during this season, it is going to be tough for him to recover back
quickly.
