Dwyane Wade named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
The heart of the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade, has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Weekfor games played between 7-13 March.
D-Wade paced Miami to a 2-1 week, averaging 28.7 points, 6.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds. He also had 2.67 steals and as many blocks per game. He played one of the best games of his career last week, as he shot 50.8 percent from the field and 95.7 percent from
the foul line. He led Miami in blocks in their last three contests of this season.
In Wade’s NBA career though, this is the 15th time he has picked up the top weekly prize, setting a franchise record. Wade also became the 31st Miami player in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to receive the Player of the
Week honour. In addition, this was the third time during the 2010-11 season that Wade has been awarded the player of the week title.
Since the Heat drafted the 29-year-old shooting-point guard in 2003, he has transformed into a brilliant player, helping Miami to third spot in the East.
Wade started the week with a sizzling 38-point performance in a 105-96 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night at American Airlines Arena. The defeat extended the losing streak of the Heat to five games. Wade however, was impressive in the
defeat with six rebounds, five assists, a game-high two blocks and one steal.
He then propelled the Heat with another 20-point blitz in a 94-88 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers on 10 March. The victory snapped the worst losing streak in the history of the Miami Heat. He also contributed five assists, five rebounds and four steals
in the win.
His fans will remember his brilliant performance in the game for many years to come. With the game tied at 88 in the last minute, Wade took the ball off Kobe Bryant and passed it to Lebron James, who made a slam dunk to put Miami ahead for good.
On 12 March, Wade scored a game-high 28 points in a 118-85 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies at the American Airlines Arena. Wade also contributed a team-high nine assists, five rebounds, three steals and a game-high five blocks. With this breath-taking
performance, he became the first Miami guard since Michael Jordan in 1988 to have such fantastic stats in a single contest
Other nominees for the NBA Player of the Week included Boston’s centre Nenad Krstic, Chicago’s point-guard Derrick Rose, Golden State’s combo guard Monta Ellis, New Jersey’s centre Brook Lopez and Oklahoma City’s small forward / shooting guard Kevin Durant
and point guard Russell Westbrook.
