Dwyane Wade opens up over proposed move to Chicago Bulls, playing abroad – NBA Update
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade sat down for an extended interview some time ago and the player talked openly about a number of issues. Among them was the usual lockout induced matter of playing abroad while he also touched on the sensitive matter of turning down hometown club, the Chicago Bulls, last summer.
Dwyane hails from Chicago and is believed to be an ardent supporter of the franchise. However he was drafted by the Miami Heat upon declaring for the NBA and has been at South Beach ever since. He achieved great success in his initial years with the franchise too.
Shaquille O’Neal came over from the Los Angeles Lakers in the mid 2000’s and he formed a terrifying duo with wade. Shaq went by the name of Superman while Wade was regarded as “Flash”. The Heat dominated the league for a couple of years with this big guy small guy combo and won the NBA World Championship in 2006. Dwyane Wade was named as the Finals MVP after some barnstorming performances.
However the fortunes of the franchise took a turn for the worst afterwards. Wade struggled in a subpar team for many years and became a free agent last summer. The Chicago Bulls had plenty of salary cap room to spare and naturally courted the hometown star to come and take his rightful place in the Bulls roster.
A prospective backcourt combination of Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade had Chicago Bulls fans drooling in anticipation. Wade though pulled out of the move and stayed with the Heat in the end. He revealed in the interview that a part of him did want to go, but in the end maybe it wasn’t meant to be,
"I was very serious about wanting to play in Chicago," Wade said. "I visualized myself being alongside Derrick Rose many times and Joakim Noah and all those guys many times.”
"It didn't happen, but you never know what the outcome would be. Obviously they did a great job."
Dwyane’s head was turned due to the arrival of LeBron James and Chris Bosh in Miami. The three of them combined to for the Big Three of Miami who have taken over the NBA landscape as the most talented trio of stars around.
However the ongoing lockout is threatening to halt their destined ascent to the pinnacle of the NBA and their desperate hunt for an NBA World Championship, the principle reason behind the gathering of these stars.
Many players have suggested they could play abroad if the lockout drags on, and Dwyane revealed in the interview that he wasn’t going to close any doors.
"I don't know," he said. "We'll see. Obviously, I want to play in the NBA, and that's my first option, but if it's not an option, then I have to open up my options."
