Dwyane Wade says he is ahead of schedule in comeback from knee surgery – NBA News
Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade has said that he feels he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a knee injury that required surgery over the summer, and expects to play in his third consecutive preseason game for Miami.
Wade said that his knee responded well to Miami Heat’s seven day trip to China to play two exhibition games against the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the NBA China Games, and he will be participating in Thursday’s preseason fixture against the Detroit Pistons. The Miami sharp shooter missed the preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks, but started in both games against the Los Angeles Clippers. He played 23 minutes in Wednesday’s win and a little over eight minutes in Sunday’s loss.
“I feel ahead of schedule. If I continue to keep progressing, I'm going to try to play as much as possible but try to be smart as well. I want to play Thursday, get back out there and continue to get my legs under me. So I can be ready for opening night,” said Wade.
Wade had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in July after playing through the playoffs with a knee injury. He always had the season opener in mind as his return date, but initially did not know how many preseason games he would be able to play. However, after his knee responded well to the rehab and recovery process, the guard was able to participate in team scrimmages and start in the two games against the Clippers. The Heat open the season against the Boston Celtics on October 30th.
"He's ahead of schedule, and we want to keep him that way. We're not trying to rush this or fast-track it. Last week was very positive. He was able to go every single day and then play in both games. Today, he didn't miss a turn in practice," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
Spoelstra added that Wade was day to day and refused to comment on whether he will play in all five of the Heat’s remaining preseason games. The Heat desperately need all their core players to be fit for the coming season, especially after the Los Angeles Lakers have thrown down the gauntlet as far as star power is concerned.
