Dwyane Wade sticks up for LeBron James – NBA Update
LeBron James has been in hot waters ever since he decided to join the Miami Heat last pre-season, in the quest of a Championship.
At the South Beach, he joined Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and in the season that followed, he and the Heat received vitriolic responses on every court except their own. In the last season though, one man who stuck with James both
on and off the court was Dwyane Wade.
Wade recently gave an interview in which he defended LeBron James, vouching for the latter’s character.
“LeBron is one of my best friends. A lot of the things in life we have similar from an upbringing and some of our beliefs. He’s human. He makes mistakes like all of us, like every other human being, and he’s going to do a lot of
great things as well. I don’t know anything that no one doesn’t know. He’s a big kid man. He’s giddy, he’s goofy, but at the end of the day he’s a great teammate. He’s one of those guys that will bring everybody on the bus coffee in the morning, he’s one of
those teammates.”
The duo had known each other from before, especially from the USA Men’s Olympic Basketball team, but got together at the Heat last summer. Both players were free agents, alongside Chris Bosh, then of the Toronto Raptors, and decided
to join forces in Miami.
LeBron played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Ohio, his home state, before coming to Miami. His departure was perceived by most in the state as treason and James came under fire from all quarters, including the owner of the Cavaliers.
His decision to announce his future team through a live national broadcast, without priority informing the fans or the Cavs management further worsened the situation.
The Heat, and LeBron in particular, have since been vilified to no end by the NBA fans as well as some sections of the media. James drew fire from various analysts and ex players for his decision to surround himself with such esteemed
players as Chris Bosh and Dwyane, who is a former NBA Finals MVP.
The player though performed to a very high standard in the regular season and upped it a notch in the playoffs. His clutch performances, and tremendous defending, helped propel Miami to the NBA Finals, leaving the likes of Boston
Celtics and Chicago Bulls trailing in their wake.
Once in the Finals the anti-LeBron campaign hit new heights as he came up against Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. The underdog Mavericks and the loyal Nowitzki garnered the adoration of fans and that in turn put James and
the Heat in further negative light.
The Heat lost the Finals and James wasn’t able to perform to an acceptable standard. Some of his comments afterwards further flamed the fires of hatred against the player and many have since called his character into question.
Dwyane Wade has been by LeBron’s side throughout the year and tried to help him fight these demons to the best of his ability. Wade enjoys a better public image than his colleague and used the interview to try and project LeBron
in a more positive light.
