Miami Heat’s star shooting guard to miss pre-season; goal is to return by season opener
Based on latest comments from Dwyane Wade himself, the 30 year old shooting guard is still on his way to recovery from a knee surgery and looks set to miss out on training camp and some of the pre-season fixtures.
Miami Heat management are however not at all worried about his rehabilitation and even though he is behind on the scheduled return, which was to be before training camp began, they are hopeful that the 8 times All-star will be able to recover by the season opener against the Boston Celtics.
"We'll just have to see how much he can do," Erik Spoelstra said. "We'd like to put him in a position to be able to play regular-season games and be ready for Game 1."
The two guard had the surgery on July 9th – a decision which forced him to miss out on the Olympics. Having a bad knee reflected in his performances last season as he averaged 22.1 points per game – the lowest he has done since his arrival in the NBA. He however braved the injury throughout the playoffs and eventually played a vital role in the championship run.
Wade has been making significant progress and is confident that he will be able to turn things around in the coming season.
"I'll get stronger as the year goes on, that is the understanding that I have," Wade said. "Last year I did what I could with what I was dealing with and I didn't do too bad. This year I'm looking to be better."
Wade’s recovery plan ensures his unavailability, not only in the pre season fixtures, but also in the two games in China during which Miami will take on the Los Angeles Clippers. However, sitting out the pre-season games and training camp does ensure him more time to recuperate before the season opener against bitter foes Boston Celtics.
The Greens have been waging a war of words in the off season and there is no doubt that Wade and company will be itching to set the record straight on the court come 30th October.
