Dwyane Wade talks NBA lockout; Hopes for an early settlement
Dwyane Wade spoke during a recent interview about the ongoing NBA lockout and the impact it is having on the players in the league. Wade has previously hinted that he would consider playing abroad if the lockout drags out for too
long and the player did not close that door in his recent remarks. He also spoke about finding a solution to the labour dispute.
The dispute stems from the inability of NBA owners and players to reach an agreement for a new CBA. After the expiration of the old one, the league announced that it was locking out its players on July 1st. During the
lockout the players are not allowed to use any facilities provided by NBA franchises, including medical and training. Officials, coaches or owners of NBA teams are also barred from contacting players and cannot even mention them by name to the media.
In the prevailing circumstances the National Basketball Players Association has been encouraging players to consider an outside option. Many players have stated that they would prefer to play elsewhere rather than sit around and
wait for David Stern to get serious about ending the lockout. Dwyane is one of those who wants the lockout to end, but could leave the country to find work if it doesn’t.
"I want to play the game of basketball," he said. "I want to play in the NBA. This is where I want to be — Miami. … If it goes to the point where other steps have to be taken, then we'll figure out what's best."
Dwyane has been busy in the off season. The Miami Heat super star has worked with renowned conditioning coach Tim Grover to maintain his fitness and organized various basketball camps. He also accompanied teammate and friend LeBron
James to a tour of Miami to raise the profile of their brands in the Far East.
It is clear therefore that Dwyane doesn’t believe in sitting idly and let opportunities pass him by. The player has already been to the pinnacle of the NBA World when he won the title back in 2006 as well as the NBA Finals MVP
award.
Wade has a positive and proactive view on a lot of issues and he does not treat the lockout any differently. The player has advocated larger participation in negotiations for a new CBA by NBA super stars. He revealed in the interview
his firm belief that the household names of the NBA would have to get involved as much as they can in order to find a solution before the lockout causes some serious damage.
"The guys who drive the NBA have to drive this lockout … and really make sure we don't lose a lot of time for the sake of the NBA," he says.
