Dwyane Wade talks about the early season struggles of the Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Update
The South Beach is doing just fine. The weather is sunny, the beaches are packed and the NBA championship is home. And, looking at the way this season has progresses so far, it appears that it is here to stay.
However, the picture was not all that rosy for the Miami Heat, once the big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh joined forces and begun the 2010-11 season together. Out of the first 17 games of that season, the Heat
lost 8 and there were calls for Erik Spoelstra’s head. Pat Riley, the man who entrusted Spoelstra to do the job, however stayed put and the championship eventually came, albeit a year later.
Miami’s struggles early in the big three era are a thing of the past now, but with Los Angeles Lakers facing a similar crisis, it has come into the spotlight again. The Lakers made huge acquisitions this summer, bringing in Dwight
Howard and Steve Nash, to form a team which probably appears stronger than the Heat on paper. But, despite having all the star power, they have struggled to get going.
And while Riley was patient with Spoelstra two years earlier, they wasted no time in pressing the trigger and axed head coach Mike Brown after a 1-4 start.
For them, it’s all about winning, a feeling with which Heat are quite familiar with.
Wade for one has seen it all, taken it all, and when asked about the Lakers situation recently, he was confident that they will gel together eventually;
“You know it’s gonna take time, no matter how great you are,” Wade said. “Even if you start off the season on fire, there’s going to be a period of time during the year when you’re going to have to finally figure each other out.
“That’s every team, even this team. We’re a different team. We’ve got a lot of the same personnel, but we still got to figure out our game as we add new pieces to our team. So all this talk about the Lakers. The Lakers will be
fine. I’m not concerned about that at all.”
The chemistry however will not come without sacrifices, and whether the Lakers have it in them remains a big question.
