Miami Heat star believes the Lakers are a great team on paper but need chemistry to win the NBA title
Dwyane Wade has been very busy recently as he does a promotional tour for his new book on fatherhood. As part of the tour, Wade has been making appearances, doing interviews and books signings and the whole nine yards.
Being a basketball player though, wherever Wade goes, there are a couple of standard questions he is asked. Among them are what it likes to win an NBA championship this past season, how it compared to his championship title from
2006, what are the challenges in repeating it the next season and so on.
And there is another question that is being asked a lot recently, not just from Wade, but all the top NBA players. And that is what they think about the new Los Angeles Lakers roster.
The Lakers added point guard Steve Nash and centre Dwight Howard to a roster that already includes Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, to assemble one big superstar roster for next season. Along with being a star filled roster, the Lakers
are also being tipped as favourites to winning the championship next season. Wade seems to think that the Lakers need to make things work for them to achieve their goals.
Talking to Fox Sports, Wade said
"They’ll be great, but they have to make it work. Some people figure it out right away, some people take till mid-season to figure it out and some take until the next year if they figure it out. Obviously for them, they need to
be successful as they want to be, they’re going to have to do it right away.”
Wade has a point here, a point that has been repeated by almost all the NBA players and analysts who have been asked this question. The Lakers have a solid team on paper, probably the best in the league. But they are yet to play
a game together, and with Howard possibly missing the start of the NBA season as he recovers from a back surgery, they might not play together till well into the season.
How quickly they adjust to their new roles, their new teammates and their new game plan will determine how successful they are next season.
