Dwyane Wade to undergo surgery; not taking part in the London Olympics 2012 – NBA Update
After going through a discussion with his doctors regarding the lingering knee problem, Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat has decided to not take part in the London Olympics 2012 and undergo surgery.
He notified USA Basketball chairman, Jerry Colangelo and Coach Mike Krzyzewski about his decision on Thursday.
The decision from Wade may have not come as much of a surprise as he had faced knee issues throughout the season.
"I've decided to listen to my doctors and get the procedure I need on my knee," Wade said
"I'm happy that I can focus on my body a little bit," Wade said. "I'm not happy to get surgery, but I'm happy that I can focus on getting better."
An official date for the procedure is still to be decided after Wade and his doctors can settle on an agreeable schedule.
If everything goes as planned, Wade is expected to be fully fit for training camp before the start of next season.
Wade is expected to be only on the crutches for a day or two after the ‘cleanup’ procedure takes place on his knees.
"That's the way we laid it out," Wade said. "Hopefully, nothing changes. ... I don't think it's going to limit me too much."
With Wade`s decision to sit out for the Olympic games, team USA are going to be losing their leading scorer from the team that went all the way to win a gold medal in Beijing back in 2008.
However, team management and Coach ‘K’ have high regards for his decision and wish him a speedy recovery.
"We're totally supportive of Dwyane's decision and hope that he has a full and speedy recovery. He has been an amazing member of USA Basketball," Krzyzewski said.
Now with Wade out of the 18 nominated players for training camp, Miami would have two players among 15 others trying to get a chance to represent USA the Olympics next month.
The training camp is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas before team USA goes on a 5 match friendly stint and eventually going on to take on France on July 29th in their first game.
