Dwyane Wade uncertain about participating in 2012 London Olympics: NBA Update
Miami Heat’s shooting guard Dwyane Wade has revealed that he is uncertain about participating in the London Olympics 2012 with Team USA.
Wade, who did not participate in 2010 World Championships in Turkey said, “I’m like in the middle. I’ll be in the middle for a while. We’ll see.”
He went on saying, “It depends on a lot of things. It depends on health, obviously. It depends on if I have a position the team needs me to play, etcetera. So we’ll see. I’ll be honoured if they want me to.”
Wade approved of the fact that now his age is also a factor. “I’ll be one of the older guys on the team if I decided to play, at 30,” he said. “So I have to sit down and really think about it. But right now I’m just in the middle
of it.”
The USA Basketball Association has to confirm their roster by next June. Chairman Jerry Colangelo has indicated that he is planning to make contact with players soon to determine whether they are interested in playing a part in
the London Olympics. The lockout situation and the uncertainty that it has brought with it, has made things a little more complicated for him
Although Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant and another star of Miami LeBron James promised after winning the gold in Beijing Olympics 2008 to rejoin Team USA for 2012, but now the circumstances are different. With possibly no basketball
before June next year, it will be difficult for some players to fulfil their commitment.
Wade was a part of the United States Men’s Basketball Team, also known as the "Redeem Team" that participated in the 2008 Olympics. Dwyane led the team in scoring and guided them to a gold medal. Therefore, his exclusion in 2012
will definitely hurt team USA.
Wade has had an excellent regular and postseason with the Heat. The veteran guard took part in 76 games during the last regular-season and scored at an average of 25.5 points per game. Dwyane did not let his figures go down in
the 21 games of the 2011 playoffs. He averaged 24.5 points per game and Dallas Mavericks mightily struggled to deal with the “Flash”.
It’s been a month now since the Heat lost to the Mavs, but Wade revealed that he still feels the pain of losing the title, especially after going 2-1 up in the best of the seven games series finals.
Wade, who will soon visit China, is looking to start his training in the near future. He is very cautious about his fitness and for this reason he is not in any hurry to make a decision on Olympics yet. As break from the game is
the need of the hour and it would give Wade ample time to rejuvenate his body and his mind.
