Dwyane Wade undergoes a surgery to repair left knee – NBA News
On Monday, Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade underwent a successful surgery on left knee.
Heat team physician Harlan Selesnick performed the surgery at the Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables just outside of Miami. The surgery took nearly 20 minutes and Wade later tweeted that he was feeling better.
The Miami Heat star had suffered from knee injury throughout the 2011-2012 season, but the injury worsened particularly during the playoffs. Wade battled with swelling on his knee and pain throughout the Heat run at the NBA title,
while still managing to start all 23 post season games. His knee started giving him severe problems in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals against the Indiana Pacers and Wade had fluid removed from the knee midway through the series.
The two guard is expected to recover in 6 to 8 weeks and will be back in time for the training camp of the Miami Heat ahead of the 2012-2013 NBA season. The injury did force him to miss the 2012 Olympics that are taking place in
London later this month.
Wade had been included in the preliminary roster but could not make it for training camp in Las Vegas due to his knee injury and ruled himself out of the competition. He was the leading scorer for the U.S team in the 2008 Olympics
that took place in Beijing, averaging 16 points a game, despite not starting a single one of those games. His good friend and teammate LeBron James is currently in Las Vegas to attend the training camp for the U.S Basketball team.
Wade said he was disappointed not to be part of the star studded team but needed to give priority to his franchise and injury.
Wade was part of the Miami Heat team that won the NBA championship last season by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-1 in the NBA Finals. This was his 2nd NBA ring, as he previously led the Miami Heat to the NBA title
back in 2006, where he won the NBA Finals MVP award as well. At 30, Wade believes he still has many years ahead of him and the knee injury does not signify a decline in his health.
