Dwyane Wade’s frustrations now spilling out of control – NBA Feature
It has been an interesting few days for Dwyane Wade. The All Star and one time Finals MVP winner is, in simple words, losing his composure.
The playoffs are all about pressure situations and the team that handles pressures well eventually wins. Wade seems to be melting under pressure. Wade was 0-5 in the first half during game 3 against the Indiana Pacers and finished
with just five points on 2 for 13. He has not had a good series against Indiana, missing four field goal attempts in the final few minutes of game 2 that could have sealed the victory for Miami.
The Heat are trailing 1-2 in the series because Chris Bosh is out with a strained abdominal muscle. There is no confusion. But the fact is that in the absence of Bosh, Wade and James had to step up and take additional responsibility.
James has been doing his part but Wade is struggling. And that is costing the Miami Heat progression in the playoffs.
However, even more shocking is the fact that Wade has been losing his temper in this series. He is not the type to lose his composure during a match but this postseason, we have seen Wade cracking a bit under pressure. His on floor
troubles are worrisome and would have any player frustrated, but his actions are indicating he is not in the right frame of mind.
In game 2 against the Pacers, Wade pushed Darren Collison from behind as he was making a fast break to show frustration for not being given a foul on an earlier possession. He received a flagrant 1 foul for the play. Then in the
game 3 loss, Wade was seen arguing with coach Erik Spoelstra after a time out as the Heat players made their way onto the court. Wade had to be dragged aside by his teammates as he seemed furious, and then James and company came to him to talk with him and
calm him down.
When asked about the incident after the game, Wade said:
“I don’t even remember what y’all talking about.”
Coach Spoelstra down played the whole incident when asked about it in the post game press conference
“You have no idea how often things like that happen. Guys say something you don’t like and you move on. Dwyane and I have been together a long time. We’ve been through everything. That’s nothing” said the coach.
Whatever the matter, the fact is that Wade seems to be imploding. Whether it is his recent lack of form that has him frustrated or something else, his actions are not looking good for the Miami team. There is a possibility that
Wade is fatigued after a gruelling season, although none of the Heat team members or coaches said anything like that.
Wade is an important part of Miami’s attempt to win the championship this season. He has not been playing well which is hurting the Heat at the moment. However, he is an experienced player and one of the best in the league, who
has been in pressure situations on many occasions before. I would not be surprised if Wade comes back to have a big game 4 and silence all his critics. He is capable of that. For Miami’s sake, let us all hope that happens.
