Dwyer Stakes 2011 at Belmont Park – Adios Charlie, Cool Blue Red Hot, Dominus favourites
Belmont Park hosts a fabulous Grade 2 event by the name of Dwyer Stakes, which shares such repute among trainers that they hunger to participate in the $150,000 pursed event.
In accordance with the prestige seven three-year olds are entered in the Dwyer Stakes. These include Malibu Glow, Adios Charlie, Cool Blue Red Hot, Rocking Out, Harlan’s Hello, Tech Fall and Dominus. The race is run over a distance of 8.5 furlongs.
Among these the most favoured candidate is Adios Charlie. He happens to be the only stakes winner to enter the field. The three year old bay colt is co-owned and trained by Stanley Hough.
He rose to the status of a graded stakes winner in his third start. His third start was the Grade 2 Jerome Stakes held on April 23, 2011 at Aqueduct.
Adios Charlie was bred by Brylynn Farm in Florida. He is out of the mare Teak Totem. The Indian Charlie colt has lifetime earnings of $174,000. His mount will be taken by regular jockey Rajiv Maragh.
Maragh commented about Adios Charlie by saying, “He has good natural speed, so you can do whatever you want”. Rajiv Maragh was earlier scheduled to ride another favourite candidate for the Dwyer Stakes, Cool Blue Red Hot.
Cool Blue Red Hot, a son of Halan’s Holiday has had good performances at distances equal to Dwyer Stakes. He receives conditioning from Angel Penna Jr.
According to Penna, Cool Blue Red Hot was suffering from some mental problems in South Florida, but he is now on his way to recovery. His reins will be held by John Velazquez, who will be breaking from post 6.
Penna commented on the colt’s physical form by saying:
“He’s a horse that is improving, I don’t think we still have [gotten] the best out of him, he’s still coming along. He’ll be a better horse probably in August. You get to a point where you have to test them a little. That’s what we’re doing without going
to the acid test of a Haskell or a Travers. It’s not an easy race, but it’s not an overpowering race. Whatever happens on Saturday, you’ll know more or less where you stand”.
Another sizzling candidate for the Dwyer Stakes is Dominus, who is set to dominate the field, as his name suggests. He comes to the field after being beaten by a neck by Machen in the Derby Trial held on April 30, 2011.
Dominus races for the partnership of Stonestreet Stables, George Bolton, and Spendthrift Farm. The lightly raced three-year old brown colt is trained by Steve Asmussen. The ridgling is sired by Smart Strike.
He broke his maiden while running in the Santa Anita on March 26, 2011. This was the colt’s second start. He will have the services of jockey, Julien Leparoux, as he is installed as the 2-1 morning line favourite. He will break from post 2.
Not one of the candidates of the Dwyer Stakes made it to the Triple Crown. So it is hoped that all the horses progress to the field in their best form.
