This was one I never heard of. A much longer version with some pictures is here:

Cue twilight zone music. Anyhow, um, this has to be a question, right. OK, My theory is that paradoxical undressing can explain this disaster, does anyone agree?

  1. If it was a scavenger it wouldn't have just eaten her tounge though. If it wanted her tounge it probably would have eaten through her face to get at it. Crows eat the eyes first I think, but I'm not sure about other scavengers.

The 'tanned' faces could have been wind or cold burn. The one article says that there was even a fire that says they lived longer than I would have thought in such cold temperatures.

From what I have read it looks to me like it was an avalanche, or they THOUGHT there was an avalanche comming. They ran away in disarray  some may have run into the path of the actual avalanche, causing the injuries and killing them. However the clothes swapping is odd if they died right away. Although maybe they died because they stayed long enough to throw on whatever clothes they could find. I can see losing a tounge in the rush of snow maybe she was screaming and it get pulled out? The ones who lived and were not caught in the avalanche died of hypothermia because they could not find their way back to camp.

The only part that is not accounted for is the radiation. Maybe the avalanche was caused by a secret weapon emitting radiation :P

Well anyway thats what I can imagine. It is weird though. Though it was what 24 days in between when they died and when they were found. Any evidence of snow movement would have settled by that time.

  2. Very very weird. I never knew that! Thanks for the info.

So how do they know they jumped out of their clothes and out of the tent? Couldn't they have done it gradually?  Could her tongue have frozen off..or gotten stuck on something and she had to pull it off to get away? They were probably hallucinating anyway. Strange that all of them would do this..and that they didn't stay together. It's never happened to me..but it's cold tonight. I'll be sure and remember this!( If I find myself throwing off my electric blanket!!)

  3. What I thought of when I read this was alien abduction, but who knows? There may well have been an explosion in the area, as in 1959 they were testing all sorts of things and would never admit to the public on these matters. And yes, you are right, scavengers do explain the missing tongue, It was my first thought. There was no explaination of the broken ribs, do they know for a fact that the ribs were broken before death? If they were dead, that may explain why there was no damage to the soft tissue. Because the case is so old, I doubt that there will be many scientific answers to all of the questions as there is a lack of interest in finding the answers
