Question:

Dyed my hair dark? (ten points if you can help)?

My hair is just a normal brown, which I thought was boring, so I got little blonde highlights for a while, which made it look dirty blonde/light brown. Finally, before 8th grade, I wanted something different, and practically everyone dyes their hair blonde or gets blonde in it. So, I asked for a slightly darker shade than my natural shade and it looks almost black. It's okay, but about 10 people died their hair dark for the school year, and think the color is too dark for my skin tone. What I really want to do is get it back to my normal brown (without dying again) and then get strawberry/brown-ish chunks in it.(You know, a kind of light red/brown color that blends a little but you can see the pieces.

How can I fade the color? Will this damage my hair a lot? (I'm not too worried about it, because my hair is SO thick and hard to manage. Seriously. Dying it darker actually made it a tiny bit easer to control. When I get it thinned out, there's enough hair for two wigs and it's still thick.

  1. all hair-dyed or not-lightens up (called bleaching) or fades when it gets contact with the sun...mine used to almost be black and now it naturally turned light brown because of the sun contact.

and if you dont like your hair so thick a good idea is to get a lot of layers, it will be really pretty and it makes things easier.

about your red/brown thing, after it bleaches some, you can get red highlights. they are georgous...trust me!

    good luck!

  2. other than dying your hair lighter, you can do a once a week oil treatment like by VO5 i heard that oil treatments make color fade easily!

  3. buy a HAIR COLOR REMOVER such as COLOR OOPS (found at walgreens or any other drugstore) or COLOR ZAP (found at Sally's Beauty Supply).

  4. u have to dye........but ur in 8th grade,,,i think u should wait till u get older

  5. Well no matter what anyone says on here you can NOT dye lighter. You can only bleach, strip, or fade it.

I doubt you want to bleach or strip so lets go with fading... Just get a simple clarifying shampoo from like a beauty supply store. Use it every time you shampoo. It will work about a week or so if you wash everyday.

  6. A strong detergent might do the trick, but is very drying.  You might want to hit the beauty supply house and ask for color remover.  If you can't find this, cuticle remover will do.  Apply for 5 or 10 minutes, and shampoo out, following with a good conditioning treatment.  This might bring out some red hues that won't require a separate coloring.  You might like it as is.

  7. if you put a darker color in your hair the only way to get it out is to chemically lighten it , ie bleach. The only thing that may help fade the color (if it was a semi or demi ) would be paul mitchel shampoo two. There are also chemical color removers but i suggest a salon if you want to use chemicals.

  8. I think everyone looks good with black hair. no matter what skin tone. and after like a week or two it will fade out and get lighter. : ) so don't worry.
