  1. Yes, it is possible, but I will tell you that if it is an old dress, you may not be happy with the results, so be prepared to buy something. This is because perspiration or other unseen stains can cause the dye to uptake unevenly.  I have dyed 3 wedding dresses.  One came out fairly awful due to unseen stains, one came out very nicely, although we ended up replacing seed beads because they looked strange-- and one came out just ok.  For this last one, we bought new ivory lace and covered the dress with an overlay and you couldn't tell that it wasn't perfect.  Get samples both lighter and darker and hold against the dress in different lighting before buying the rest of the lace (usually 54 inch fabric).

I have to add that the one that came out fairly awful was still usable to make a bride-type costume dress for a child to play dress up.

As far as dye, I just what other gals were using for quilting.

  2. Matte Satin and Taffeta will hold dye differently, so you probably won't get a match.

I don't think tulle dyes at all.

Best check with a professional.  A dry cleaners or shoe dying establishment should be able to point you in the right direction.

  3. As someone else said, satin and taffeta are two entirely different fabrics, and may not dye the same.  And if you get tulle wet, it will get limp and lifeless.  I wouldn't even consider trying to dye this dress.

  4. I would suggest to consult a seamstress, but your best bet would be to use a tea stain.  I know my seamstress had to stain my veil to match my dress.  My dress was ivory (or candlelight) and the veil was white.  So she used some regular tea diluted in water and soaked the veil in it.  It was a real subtle color change and seamed to be easy on teh fabric.  My veil was lace and silk.

So I'm sure it's possible but I would consult a professional for the best advice.
