Dylan Alito claims victory at the San Francisco stop of 2011 Downtown Throwdown
Dressed up as a Juggalo and looking extremely formidable with an axe in his hand, Breckenridge-based Dylan Alito rode off to victory at the second stop of Downtown Throwdown that went down in San Francisco, America, on Saturday, October 29.
Nick Visconti’s innovation and style earned him the runner-up place, while Dylan Thompson finished in third place. Ryan Paul and Brandon Hobush treated the crowd to a few minutes of thrilling stunts and rounded out the Top-Five as a result.
After a successful start to the latest Rail Jam tour in Seattle earlier this month, the competition came down to San Francisco to treat the fans to exciting snowboarding action in an urban venue. The credit for the preparation of an excellent event venue went to Snowboy Productions and Lib Tech who transformed the area between Main City Library, City Hall and the UN Plaza into a battleground for the snowboarders by planting almost 100,000 pounds of snow there.
With a first-place prize money of USD $5,000 up for the grabs, the line-up comprising of 25 riders was rearing to unleash its magic on the judges with the intention of leaving them spell-bound. The features offered ample opportunities for the riders to prove their mettle and impress the crowd and judges alike.
Showing up at the competition in full Halloween effect, the 21-year-old Alito threw delivered his skills on the features, pulling off nearly every trick in the book. While it is impossible to know whether the ominous axe in Alito’s hand helped the judges in reaching their decision, the “Juggalo” was declared the winner and was awarded the $5,000 first place prize.
Visconti was nothing short of sensational either and threw down some pretty exciting tricks on the features. However, he was unable to out-perform Alito and therefore was forced to settle for second place.
Visconti, Thompson and Hobush put up a thrilling show for the crowd and eventually rounded out the Top-Five at Downtown Throwdown. Andrew Brewer’s aggressive riding got him the Destroyer award, while Chris Brewer won a seafood dinner – presented by Crab Grab - for two due to his smooth style.
The competition turned out to be an over-all fun experience for both the riders and the crowd. Indeed there is nothing like an opportunity to enjoy the electrifying winter sports actions right in the middle of a city in summer-like conditions with a temperate of around 75 degrees.
