Dylan Frittelli of South Africa finished his second round campaign in style, as he recorded a birdie-eagle streak over the last two holes, to take outright halfway lead at the Kärnten Golf Open presented by Mazda, on Friday, June
28, 2013.
The European Challenge Tour event is being staged at the Jacques Lemans Golf Club, featuring some of the prominent names from different parts of the world, who are contending for a share of the €160,000 total prize fund.
Starting on the back nine of the course, the South African birdied the 12th and the 16th hole, while recoding pars on seven other holes, to reach the turn in two under.
The back nine of the course witnessed him picking up some pace and the 23 year old from Joburg birdied three of the first five holes, while conceding just a single bogey on the par-5 second.
He then parred each of the sixth and the seventh hole, before adding three shots to his scorecard, over the next two holes.
At the end of the day, he found himself leading Lloyd Saltmаn by a single stroke, with Edouаrd Dubois Billy Hemstоck and Peter O’Keefe finished a further stroke back to share the third spot on the leaderboard.
“Home in 31 was pretty good considering I bogeyed the easiest hole on the course on the front nine,” said Frittelli. “It doesn’t help when you go for the superhero play with a hybrid from a severely sloping lie, but that’s what
I did on four and I got my punishment with the bogey.
“But apart from that there was a lot of good stuff out there today and it is always a very satisfying way to end a good round with a birdie-eagle finish. That will always turn a decent round into a very good one and that’s how
it turned out for me today,” he added.
Talking to the European Challenge Tour’s official website, he also said that he will try not to take pressure on the weekend, while focusing on his natural game, to finish the week on top of the leaderboard.
