Dylan Garrod secures Men’s 100m backstroke gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Dylan Garrod of North Shore Swimming-AK secured the title of Men’s 100m backstroke in 16 and over age category on initial day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September
30.
The 18-year-old Garrod demonstrated his astounding efforts in the 100m discipline and proved his mettle for the title.
With his continuous efforts in the four-lap race, he succeeded in outperforming his toughest challenger over the finishing wall as he occupied the title with a timing of 56.32 seconds.
His remarkable effort remained 0.24 seconds faster from Oliver Wyeth of Capital Swim Club-WN, who snared silver medal of the race by completing his swim in a time of 56.56 seconds.
Wyeth was traced by Nick Tyrrell of Neptune Swimming Club-OT, who stayed 0.72 seconds behind and transpired on the medal rostrum for third position by clocking a time of 57.28 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Jonathan Burfield-Mills of Greendale Swim Team-HP, who stayed 0.70 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 57.98 seconds for fourth position.
Similarly, the 16-year-old Burfield-Mills remained 0.33 seconds faster from his following swimmer, Hone Scott of Napier Aquahawks-HP, who remained prominent for fifth position of the event by clocking a time of 58.31 seconds.
Scott was traced by Michael Finlay of Orca Swimming Club-SL, who was 0.12 seconds behind and hit the wall for sixth place with an effort of 58.43 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Phillip Brittain of Wide Bay Swimming Club, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and submitted a time of 58.48 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed sluggish swim of Jackson Cropp of North Shore Swimming-AK, who failed to make a considerable improvement in his pace and finished last in the race.
Cropp remained 0.21 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as eighth position holder with a timing of 58.69 seconds.
In addition, Garrod was extremely pleased with his effort in the backstroke discipline and raked medal after the event.
