Dylan McNicholas wins finale at 2011 Bay State Cyclo-cross weekend – Cycling Update
Cyclocrossworld.com Team’s Dylan McNicholas showed a tremendous performance on the second day of the Bay State Cyclo-cross 2011 on Sunday. Finishing as the number one on the podium, Dylan claimed the UCI triumph for the first time, this season.
McNicholas proved unbeatable and easily outclassed Raphael Gagné of Rocky Mountain Factory in the last kilometers, setting the fastest time of 1 hour and 30 seconds.
SmartStop/MOB p/b Ridley rider, Jerome Townsend showed an aggressive tendency and launched the first attacked. However, his initiation did not last for long.
After the first lap of the race, a group of cyclists closely followed Townsend. His teammate Adam Myerson, McNicholas, Justin Lindine (bikereg.com/Joe’s Garage), Raphael Gagne (Rocky Mountain Factory) were the chasing riders, led by JAM Fund/NCC’s Jeremy Durrin and Alec Donahue.
Donahue managed to supersede the chasers. He continued his effort to stay in the front but he failed to uphold his pace and returned to the chase.
With five laps to go, McNicholas launched an attack and gained a lead of ten seconds over the other cyclists. Later on, he easily extended the lead to twenty seconds. Meanwhile, Lindine showed a relatively uninspiring performance throughout the race.
While the chasers had strong legs, Dylan attacked and, displaying superior skills and capabilities, took his second victory of the weekend.
Raphael Gagné of Rocky Mountain Factory was in a good form and tried his best to catch Dylan but failed. He grabbed the second place, 6 seconds down to the American, and was quite pleased with his performance in the race.
Gagne launched an attack close to the finish, leaving Jeremy Durrin of J.A.M. Fund / NCC unable to match his pace. Jeremy landed in the third place with a difference of 9 seconds.
Adam Myerson (Team Mountain Khakis presented by S) claimed the fourth place with a difference of 47 seconds and Justin Lindine grabbed the fifth, 50 seconds down to the American.
Jerome Townsend (SmartStop / MockOrangeBikes pb Ridl), Shawn Milne (Essex County Velo - Driven by Mazda) and Alec Donahue (J.A.M. Fund / NCC) were in the sixth, seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
The Verge New England Cyclo-Cross Series and the Shimano New England Professional Cyclocross Series will start next weekend in Warwick, Rhode Island. It will be interesting to see who will win the next series of the race.
