When I plug the heater in, the fan starts, and the igniter is firing...when I move the dial to the "low/ignite" setting and keep it depressed, it fires up; when I release the dial, the igniter is still clicking. When I move the dial to med or high, the igniter still sparks. Is this supposed to happen?

I just received this from a friend and there is no manual. I'm not sure if the spark keeps it lit, or if it should shut off once I release the dial. There is s tube inside that glows red, so I figured that is what generates the flame.
