Dynamic Host succeeded over Dhaamer in the Grade 3 Tokyo City Cup at Santa Anita Park
Dynamic Host bolted through the track on 24th March, 2012 in the Grade 3 Tokyo City Cup at Santa Anita Park. Trained by Art Sherman, he was mounted by David Flores in the 1 ½ mile track.
The son of Dynaformer, out of French Deputy mare Hosta, was sent with the odds of 5 to 1. He was held up in the rear, but gained pace as the race continued. He broke away from the pack in the final furlong and completed the race comfortably in 2 minutes
and 30.22 seconds.
His owners Zvika Akin, Greg Avery and Bill Wilbur were proud of his victory in the $100,000 race as he defeated, Dhaamer, by a narrow distance of a neck. Dhaamer was the second favourite in this race, who entered with odds of 5 to 2.
Sherman stated to the press that: “He was hanging in there tough through the stretch, he impressed me with his gameness, but sometimes he likes to hang. I was getting a little nervous. It was an absolutely wonderful ride by David Flores.”
Flores also expressed his appreciation by stating that: “I had an excellent trip, he broke slow like he always does, so I wasn’t worried about it. He jumped into the bit the first time we got to the first stretch, so I had to take control of him.”
This was Dhaamer’s first in the United States, after ten races in Ireland. The son of Dubai Destination, out of mare Arjuzah, had no previous experience on the dirt track. He was teamed with Rafael Bejarano, and was easily guided to the finish in second
place. The five-year-old gelding has immense potential which will further be polished as he gains more experience.
The gelding impressed his connections, trainer, Mike Mitchell and owner, Edward J.Brown, with his strong finish as a runner-up as he demonstrated remarkable improvement from his performance in the Denman- Building For You – Handicap at Nottingham on
12th October, 2011.
Skipshot finished in third falling 4 1/4 lengths behind Dhaamer, whereas Eldaafer fell short of third place by an immense difference of 13 ¼ lengths.
Twice the Appeal, the race favourite with the odds of 9 to 5, could not live up to the expectations of his trainer Jeff Bonde, as he failed to acquire a placed finish.
He was paired with Garrett Gomez and finished the race in sixth place. This was a slight disappointment, as the son of Successful Appeal, out of Double Boarded, emerged victorious from the Grade 3 Sunland Derby in Sunland Park on 28th
March, 2011, where he defeated Astrology by 1 ½ lengths.
