Dynaslew sent at 20 to 1 for Filly and Mare Turf, but Benzel likes his mare’s chances
Winless 2011 for the 5-year-old mare, Dynaslew who managed a second place finish recently in the Grade 3 Glens Fall Handicap followed by a third place finish in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl. The Seth Benzel trained Florida bred is now pointed toward the Grade
1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf on 4 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs.
Live Oak Plantation’s homebred Dynaslew is sent off with the 20 to 1 odds to win the Filly and Mare Turf, and surprisingly she was the first entrant of the race, but despite everything, trainer Seth Benzel is optimistic that the experienced mare can spur
up a few surprises and likes her chances.
In the two recent starts, it seems as if the daughter of Dynaformer, out of Slews Final Answer by Seattle Slew, is coming to some kind of form, after a dismal season.
She started off the season with a disappointing run in the Sunshine Millions Filly-Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park on 29 January, 2011, over on the grass. Under E Coa, Dynaslew finished a non threatening thirteenth in the race.
In between the Gulfstream Park feature and the Saratoga meet, Dynaslew finished 4th Viva Vino who finished third in the race.
She was sent to Saratoga to get her season back on track, but even there she started disappointingly for her connections, as she finished a distant 9th on the day in the 1 mile long De La Rose under jockey Ramon Dominguez.
On 6 August, 2011, the mare was up against a decent lineup but was expected to do well, but she failed to do so. Without making an impact in the De La Rose, Dynaslew was entered in another race called the Grade 3 Glens Fall Handicap.
The race was on 5 September, 2011, and was run over a distance of 1 3/8 miles. Dynaslew flew from the gates and kept her composure till the end to finish second behind Emerald Beech.
The Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf is also run over at a distance of 1 3/8 miles, a distance which Dynaslew seems to favour and the inkling Seth Benzel is having might turn into reality if Dynaslew decides to go front on.
