I've always had a problem with math, and recently I found out about dyscalculia. The symptoms basically describe my math skills. (mix up numbers, count on fingers, bad at times tables, etc., etc., etc.) I told my mom and she was all like: No your too smart, blah blah blah. but why do those symptoms describe me if i dont have it, mom? The school year is about to start for me :[ NO!! If they test me for it, what are they gonna do in the test? is it written or verbal or what?

Thanks!!

  1. Well if you feel that you need the testing please do it.You sound a lot like me. there may be more that just this. it has been a tuft road for me. You should be able to go on line and find out. But do something I'm in my fifties and wish when I was young I had the help.

  2. You sound just like me...Did well in all my other classes, but sucked at math! I wasn't tested for my lack of mathematical ability until college! DO try to convince your mom you need help because I found out after years of suffering and feeling horrible about myself that I have a learning disability in math. When they tested me, it was a series of tests that were verbal, as well as written. Ultimately, you will find out that you have a learning disability or that math is a subject that is super hard  for you and that you need a lot of help. BTW - if you're comfortable, I would talk with your teacher(s) or counselor(s) (depending on your level of schooling) and tell them how you feel. Maybe they can talk to your mother for you.

  3. The test will probably be a mixture of both verbal and "written".

  4. You can be advanced in other subjects and still have a math learning disablility.  Ask your mom to request testing through the school.
