  1. When trying to find work, look at what you can do rather than what you can't do, list what your skills or qualifications are, and look for something that interests you, and you have some knowledge about, this may help in finding a job.

You could also see if there is any education or training centres that offer support to students with disabilities, and then gain further qualifications in areas of interest. Or see if there is any employment agencies that assist people to find employment.

I have dyslexia and failed high school, I was diagnosed as having dyslexia when my daughter was, I learnt as much as I could about dyslexia, then found and developed some strategies to help my daughter, I later used these to go and get an education.

It was not easy and often very difficult, but I am now a qualified Youth & Disability support worker and a sessional teacher. My employers know I have dyslexia and another disability, and are very supportive.

I told both my employers that I had dyslexia and another disability at the time of the interview, at one interview I knew I had the job before I left, this employer now asks me for advice on how to help or work with others who have a learning disability.

Prior to finding out I had dyslexia I found it difficult find work, unless it was manual labour, you don't have read well to do manual work, so I had always done manual work.

  2. I am Dyslexic my self and have never had any problems finding work.

Employers are required by law to make reasonable adjustments for disability.  That being said  i would not apply for a job that required amazing spelling, perfect memory recall.  it just would not be possible for me to do.  I work in IT. That means all my work is on computer thus spell checked.  Any paper based work i have to do i type and print.  My boss is aware of the situation and provides all my work, on email, rather than asking me verbally. that way i can keep track of what i need to do.

  3. i have dyslexia and in my job they help me with the till :)
