Manchester City’s striker, Edin Dzeko has claimed that his team don’t fear anyone who they have been paired with in the Champions League, and that the club will be looking to prove their worth in the upcoming games.
City are set to play in the same group as Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax, as they are placed into the group of death.
The group sees all the league champions from last season come together, in what is looking to be one of the best group stage run ins of all time.
Despite the task at hand looking to be rather confusing and complicated, Dzeko is confident that his side will be able to come out on top and end up benefiting from the way they have been paired.
"We were in the group of death last season and now we are in it again."
"The group will be great to watch, but not so great to play in. But we know what we are capable of and we don't fear anybody.”
"I believe it will be a tight race and it will be interesting to see who will go to the next round.”
He then went on to add: "Whoever finishes first and second in the group will be big favourites to win the competition. I hope we don't make the same mistakes as last season.”
"Who are the favourites? Real Madrid, of course.”
"I can't wait for the opening match at Santiago Bernabeu.”
Last season, City had a very disappointing run in the European competitions. The team was knocked out of the Champions League and was then taken out of the Europa league soon after.
They did go on to win the league, but their European status faced some serious hits. The club is now going to have to come back with all guns blazing this time around, as they look to prove everyone wrong.
Should the team actually qualify from their group, they would stand a very good chance of going on and winning the whole competition.
It is now going to be a wait to see just how the team performs and if they manage to go further this tiem around or not.
