Dzmitry Zhyrmont stuns Oleksandr Nedovyesov in opening round – Siberia Cup 2012 CH
Belarusian contender, Dzmitry Zhyrmont, devastated the seventh seed, Oleksandr Nedovyesov, with a bagel at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Tuesday. He penned down a 6-0, 6-4 victory against the world number 205 to power into the second round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place from 19th to 25th November taking place in Tyumen, Russia.
The underdog needed one hour and nine minutes to overpower Nedovyesov in straight sets. After recording the victory, Zhyrmont convincingly advanced into the round of 16 at these Russian courts.
Zhyrmont made a thunderous entry at this outdoor hard court event. He unleashed barrage of groundstrokes to reel off all six games in a row. The Belarusian was never challenged with any barrier and cashed half of the six break chances to inch towards his goal.
Ranked 275th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Zhyrmont maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He smoothly held his entire serves and got the breakthrough in the last game, eventually sealing the set by winning six games to four. The Belarusian dusted away both breakpoints he came across and converted one out of four break chances to his advantage.
The 23-year-old prevailed throughout the match. He smashed six aces and committed zero double fault. He produced a slightly higher first serve share of 59 per cent as compared to his rival’s 57 per cent and amazingly marked 21 out of 30 points on it.
Up next for the unseeded challenger is another Ukrainian contender, Denys Molchanov, who devastated Slovakia’s Ivo Klec with a bagel to set up this meeting.
The Georgian contender, Nikoloz Basilashvili, will join Zhyrmont in the following round. He bounced back to triumph over the Kazakhstani challenger, Yuri Schukin, in a three-set thriller. Basilashvili fired 10 aces and produced a better first serve share of 77 per cent as compared to his rival’s 60 per cent. He also amazingly marked 34 out of 63 points on it and ended the match with 78 points. The Georgian dropped his serve three times but cashed five out of six break chances to steal the show.
