E Marks snares three gold medals - 2011 Australian Age Swimming Championships
New South Wales’s E Marks put up a stunning performance to clinch three gold medals at the 2011 Australian Age Swimming Championships, held at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide last month.
In the Boy’s 14 years 100m freestyle final, Marks took home the golden crown with a sterling time of 53.39, while M Horton of VIC snatched the silver title with a time of 53.46 and P Topalidis of NSW grabbed the bronze medal with a time of 53.47. A Hannan of NSW ended fourth in the following meet, with a 53.47.
On the other hand, E Marks picked up the top seed in the Boy’s 14 years 100m back with a winning time of 1:00.32. Meanwhile, S Cumins of VIC captured the silver medal with a distinctive time of 1:00.59 and his team-mate A Jarvis earned the third spot in 1:01.20.
In the Boy’s 14 years 100m fly final, Marks clinched his third gold title with a winning time of 56.53. In the meantime, C Jones of New Zealand won the silver medal with an intriguing time of 57.80 and his team-mate, M Polianski settled third in a time of 58.24. A Walker of Western Australian rounded the top four in 58.66.
After nabbing the three gold medals on the trot, E Marks was immensely excited and pleased with his performance in the Australian Age Championships. He has now joined the list of the fastest teenage swimmers of Swimming Australia.
The Boy’s 14 years’ 200m IM title was won by R Leonard of NSW with a matchless time of 2:10.49. M Horton of VIC took home the silver title with a winning time of 2:12.82 and A Hannan of NSW, finished third in a time of 2:14.09.
R Leonard of NSW was the top seed in the Boy’s 14 years 400m IM, with a sterling time of 4:37.41. It was the second gold for NSW’s Leonard, whose performance in the Australian Age 2011 has been commendable.
M Horton of VIC secured the silver title with a time of 4:38.55, while M Mincham of New Zealand picked up bronze and J Traiforos, finished at the fourth spot in a time of 4:44.42.
Young Australian swimmers performed well in the 2011 Australian Age Swimming Championships and the new generation, without doubt, predict a bright future for the sport in the years to come.
